Flyball Demo this weekend at Zionsville

We are still on for a flyball demo next Saturday, September 10th, in Zionsville. I warned them we will be short-handed but they still want us to do something. The details are pretty sketchy. The event is in Lions Park which the city website lists at 115 S. Elm St. We will actually be using the SR 334 entrance. If you are coming from the east I suggest you take I-465 to Michigan Road (421 North). Go north to 116th Street (SR 334) and turn left. You will see the park on your right as you enter town. If you get to the stoplight you went too far. If you are coming from the west, take I-65 to SR 334. Go east on SR 334 through town. The road will take a sharp right then a sharp left after the Dairy Queen. Start looking for the park on your left after you go through the stoplight. Once you arrive, tell the parking lot people you are with the pet pavilion. It will be located on the second ball diamond. They should let you park fairly close. Our demo times are 2:00 and 4:00. We may not have a lot of time to set up. There is a parade in the morning then a mob of people will descend on the park around noon. I do not know how the parade will affect traffic flow for those who need to drive through town.

Recap of Hastings, MI tournament

I am happy to report that there was no Pawcolypse this year in Hastings, Michigan! It misted a few times, but no drenching rain, and no strong winds!

The dogs that went were Dash, Sam, Deeva, Max, Tommy, and Zorra. All did great. Dash and Sam were on SWAT's variety team and were glad of the continuity. Tommy came in on a few heats and he got 25 points on his first time out during U-fli.

Max and Deeva ran on an open team with SWAT and they both looked sharp in their runs.

Zorra and Tommy ran pairs together on Saturday and turned in some great times. On Sunday, Zorra ran with Cooper from SWAT, and Tommy ran in singles.

Saturday evening Katie introduced Sam and Tommy to the wonderful world of lure coursing!!! Two more converts!!

Hastings, Michigan - RPM tournament

Many of us are off to Hastings, Michigan this weekend to compete in the RPM U-Fli tournament.

We all lovingly call this tournament the Paw-colypse, as for the past 2 years torrential storms have blown through on Friday night. Chances of rain is 50% for this Friday and Saturday, as well. Hold on to your tents!

Most of the dogs will be running with SWAT. Tommy and Zorra will be competing in pairs on Saturday.

Good luck to everyone!

Great Demo in Brown County, IN

This past weekend we traveled to Brown County, Indiana and did a demonstration of flyball at the Pet Walk held in Deer Run.

Everyone was very enthusiastic at the antics of our "trained flyball dogs" who appeared to have lost their minds. During the first demo, many of the dogs forgot how to navigate the jumps and bring the ball back. The dogs had to deal with wet grass and a misty rain that was falling. I think it was just too much for them to deal with right at the start.

However, on the next demos every dog was doing great, including Frank the Boston and Jollie who were out for the very first time demonstrating their flyball skills.

During the Pet Walk Event, there were games the dogs could play. We all had a great time at the Fastest Fetch, The Shoe Sniff, (Agility)Doggie Dash, Potato Race, and various other contests. Some of the dogs even won awards because they topped all the other dogs there.

Spirit brought home 2 medals - 1st place in Fastest Fetch and 2nd Place in Doggie Dash.

Raven brought home 1 place in Potato Race

Dixie won a prize for the Most Unusual Ears

Sam brought home 2nd place in Fastest Fetch.

A good time was had by all, and we hope they will invite us back next year!

Flyball Demo in Nashville, IN 5/15/11

We will be doing a flyball demo at Deer Run Park in Nashville, IN, on May 15, 2011 from 1-4PM.  We'll have dogs of all sizes, breeds, and skill levels.

The event is sponsored by the Brown County Humane Society.  More details are here.  Everyone and doggie will have a great time.  We hope to see you there.

Deer Run Park is only a mile from downtown Nashville.  It is where the soccer field and ball diamonds are.

The "X" marks the spot on the map. The red lines goes from the light in the middle of town to the park.

If you are coming from I-65, you will get exit on the 2nd Columbus Exit for State Rt 46.  Follow that until it T's in Nashville, and turn right.  Go to the stop light in the middle of town and turn left.  The Nashville House is on the right, the Courthouse is across the street, and there is a 2 story white building on the left.  This is Main Street, but will turn into Helmsburg Road when you leave town.  You will go through one turn (or you'll hit the hill). about a 1/4 mile the road will turn to the right.  You will go straight instead, but be careful, as it is right on the curve.  There's a big sign that says Deer Run Park.  If you see McLary Road on your left, you have gone about a 1/4 mile too far.

If you are coming down State Route 135, you will be coming down a hill into the middle of town. Turn right at the light in the middle of town.  A 2 story stone building with a patio area is on your right and the courthouse is on your left.
